CRANKL

Simple, torque-limited tightening

NO MORE GUESSWORK

There it is: your beloved bike. Your pride and joy. Your trusted steed. Lance may have said that it's not about the bike, but let's face it, we're not listening to him any more.

Did you know that most of the key components on that beloved bike of yours are meant to be tightened to a specific torque? Too tight or too loose, and you risk damaging your bike, and/or yourself. The exquisitely simple CRANKL tool converts your existing multi-tool into a torque-limited thing of wonderment and, allows even the uninitiated to ensure that their bike components are tightened to the correct torque.

Save yourself. Save your bike. Other people may like your face just the way it is. Your bike needs you. You need CRANKL...

BEST OF BRITISH

CRANKL is the brain child of serial inventor, Tom Lawrie-Fussey. As an engineer, avid cyclist and fan of all things simple, he just couldn't help himself.

PATENT-PROTECTED

The fundamental design principles behind the CRANKL tool are already patent-protected.

CRANKL IN ACTION

The best thing on YouTube since Froome-dog's descent into Bagneres-de-Lucon in this years TdF. Watch our video demonstration below to see just how simple and easy-to-use CRANKL is.

GET IN TOUCH

Like it? Hate it? Want one for your jersey pocket?

We need your feedback before it's too late. We're about to commit to manufacturing costs so please be quick!

TESTS TESTS TESTS THEN MORE TESTS

We've made countless (37 actually) prototypes so that you can sit comfortably on your bike, safe in the knowledge that you've tightened stuff as it should be. So you and your nether regions are as safe as can be. Remember: tests save testes.

No Lance comments please.

TORQUS MAXIMUS

Torque is often thought of as a tricky animal. Let us debunk the beast and explain why you should care.

Try to close a door by pushing it near the hinges and it's hard work. Try instead at the handle and it's a doddle. We all know this. Therefore we all understand torque. It is a force applied at a distance from a pivot. Job done. Easy. Fixings on bikes (and lots other things for that matter) tend to be designed for a target maximum tightened torque to stop you doing damage to them, and ultimately yourself.

Get it wrong and the fixing is either left too loose (non ideal) or too tight (also very non ideal when it comes to the very inflexible, and ultimately quite brittle carbon-fibre we all like to ride). Ouch.

THE SCIENCE BIT - HOW DOES IT WORK

It's clever. But complicated it is not. If the video doesn't do it for you, consider this.

Plastic bends. We all know this. The clever bit, and the hard bit, is making it bend reliably at a specific torque without permanently deforming. We've studied the science behind bending, and found a material and geometry that allows repeated flexing without deformation.

We'll keep on testing and improving the material composition and the design, but as it stands, CRANKL can already deliver many hundreds of tightenings per tool without any drop-off in performance; which we think should be more than sufficient for even the most avid amateur cyclist.

I WANT ONE- WHAT NEXT?

Timing. Is. Crucial.

We're looking for the next step. Do we licence the tech? Do we crowd-fund the manufacture? What do you think? Are you a potential investor? Interested retailer?

Please get in touch at hello@crankl.com

THE SUMS- HOW MUCH?

Are you sitting comfortably?

This miniature wonder could retail at less than £5. And best of all, it's two tools in one. All CRANKL variants have 2 torque limits, simply flip it over to use the other torque limit.

If a big enough retailer gets onboard, then they might even consider giving them away - the best freebie a cyclist could wish for?...

ERM- JUST ONE LAST THING...

Well spotted. It's missing something. The tool-heads. But fear not. And watch the video again. CRANKL is designed to clip onto your current multi-tool. We reckoned there was little point in us trying to sell you another multi-tool, or worst-still trying to convince you to carry duplicate parts in your jersey. Even the MAMIL community should be able to wrestle with the guilt of torque wrench that provides 2 tightening torque limits for an extra 20g in their jersey.
